In southeastern Utah, a combination of resistant stone and eroded cliffs create a whimsical, magical landscape known as the Stones of Silence. Dramatic columns of sediment, called "hoodoos", stand near hillsides. Hard rock caps protect the softer rock of the eroded hoodoo.
