I’ve seen many technically excellent photographs of total eclipses over the years, but quite honestly they all look pretty much alike. So my objective was to focus on the eclipse in relation to Earth. Fortunately, this particular eclipse, witnessed from South Australia, was unique in that it occurred within an hour of sunset, providing the opportunity to frame it through gum trees. To gauge my exposure, I had to patiently wait for the eclipse to reach totality before taking a matrix meter reading on manual. Moments before, when a tiny portion of the sun was evident, the exposure was wildly brighter.
