New moon, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA

A new moon sets behind a lodgepole pine forest that burned in the massive 1988 fire. Pinus contorta latifolia does depend upon fire to survive. While the tree’s bark is thin and not fire-resistant, the cones need the heat to release the seeds.
